Patient meeting

How is my patient doing?

Many people feel a deep connection with their "genetic twin" from the very beginning.

Whether and to what extent you as a donor receive information about the health status of "your" patient depends on the rules of the respective country in which the transplantation takes place. In many countries, we as DKMS ask the transplant hospital about the health status three months after the donation. Depending on the country and the clinic, it can take some time before we receive an answer. As soon as we receive information about the health status, we will inform you immediately.

In addition, there are countries - for example, the USA or the Netherlands - where the clinics automatically inform us about the health status of the recipient of your stem cells in the first year after the transplant. This usually takes much longer than three months. At your request, further health enquiries are also possible on the anniversary of the transplantation. Some clinics and countries generally do not provide us with any information about the patient's health status, or only provide it once.

If you do not wish to receive information about the patient's health, please let us know. Of course, you can change your decision to receive health information at any time - just send us a message to let us know.

If you have any questions, please send an email to bmt@dkms-africa.org or alternatively, give us a call on 0800 12 10 82. Lines are open Monday – Friday, 08:30 and 16:30.
