Help Sandy, a Grade 1 Teacher, Find Her Lifesaving Stem Cell Donor

Sandy Needs A Stem Cell Donor!

Grade 1 teacher Sandy from Johannesburg was looking forward to the new school year when, in February, she was diagnosed with B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (B-ALL), and a matching donor was initially found, but the donor withdrew, leaving Sandy once again searching for a lifesaving match.

Diagnosed with a fast-progressing blood cancer, Sandy shared: “I haven’t been back to school since. I miss the energy, the chaos, the laughter of my Grade 1 students. It felt like I was living in a parallel universe, and I wanted my old life back so badly.”

The news of her donor backing out was devastating. “You can only imagine my disappointment on hearing this,” she added.

Even with this, Sandy remains undeterred. Her determination to live fully and return to her classroom keeps her going. “I most look forward to returning to my busy classroom and meeting my grandson for the first time,” she shares.

If you are between 17 - 55 and in good health, you can make a difference today. Register as a stem cell donor and help give Sandy, and patients like her, a second chance at life.

Remember, all costs related to the donation process are taken care of by DKMS Africa.
