Help Save Henk from a Blood Disorder

Henk’s Second Chance Starts With You

45-year-old Hendrikus, was diagnosed with Severe Aplastic Anaemia in June 2025, a rare and life-threatening condition where the bone marrow fails to produce enough blood cells. Today, a stem cell transplant could offer him a second chance at life, and that life-saving match could be you.

Henk’s life before his diagnosis was defined by hard work and passion. He took pride in his job, which he describes as both his career and his hobby. In his free time, he found joy in simple but meaningful moments; fishing or spending hours at the shooting range.

Everything changed suddenly the night he collapsed at work. He was unable to walk, could not remember his own name, and was rushed to hospital. After a month of intensive care and testing, he received the diagnosis: Severe Aplastic Anaemia.

Since then, Henk’s life has been turned upside down. Unable to return to work, he lost his income, his home, and was forced to sell his belongings just to survive. Today, he and his wife live with his sister, a single mother who is now the sole provider for their household.

The illness has taken a heavy physical and emotional toll. Henk has lost 30kg, lives with constant fatigue, and the medication that keeps him going often leaves him feeling severely ill and in pain. “I’m at a breaking point,” he shares, describing the weight of everything he has endured.

Despite this, Henk continues to fight, drawing strength from his wife, his family, and even his small dog, who bring him comfort during his toughest days.

Henk’s message is simple but powerful: this can happen to anyone, at any time. He humbly asks people to consider becoming stem cell donors, not just for him, but for all patients still waiting for a match - especially the younger ones who have their whole lives ahead of them.
