Seven-year-old Mia-Lee needs a matching stem cell donor
Mia-Lee was just a toddler when she was diagnosed with Stage 4 High-Risk Neuroblastoma. After two and a half years of gruelling treatment, she began getting better. But earlier this year, during a routine follow-up appointment, doctors noticed abnormalities in her blood counts.
Born with an infectious personality, Mia-Lee loves colouring, dancing, spending time outdoors and playing with her friends. She was finally getting the opportunity to return to school and simply be a little girl again.
But during a routine follow-up appointment, doctors noticed abnormalities in her blood counts and further medical examinations revealed that Mia-Lee had developed Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS).
For her mother, Lezhanne, the diagnosis brought back the fear and uncertainty their family had hoped they had left behind.
Their days are once again filled with hospital appointments, blood tests, bone marrow biopsies, blood and platelet transfusions, specialist consultations and long periods of waiting for results.
