His journey hasn’t been easy. For months before his diagnosis, he was sick: constantly exhausted, vomiting, unable to eat, and often falling. He now survives on regular blood and platelet transfusions.
Despite everything, Uthmaan tries to live as normally as possible. His mother, Raeesah, describes him as a boy who still finds a way to smile, even when the world feels heavy. With frequent hospital visits and mounting expenses, Raeesah shared that Uthmaan dreams of returning to school, but infection risks have made reintegration difficult.
“The school had hesitated due to the risk of infections like TB and other illnesses circulating. The school remains cautious, and homeschooling is now our most realistic option. Despite this, we’re trying to adapt. Every day is a blessing but the emotional toll is undeniable,” Raeesah shared.
With his 13th birthday coming up in September, Uthmaan is about to become a teenager and he wishes to get well again. Sign up today at dkms-africa.org/register-now and help bring children like Uthmaan closer to the life they deserve.
