10-year-old Imaan from Durban is living with Thalassemia Major and urgently needs a matching stem cell donor. Her siblings aren't a match; now she’s counting on someone like you to help her live.
10-year-old Imaan is a bright and spirited girl from Durban who enjoyed reading, drawing, and playing outdoors. With a deep love for animals, she once dreamed of becoming a veterinarian. But 5 years ago, she was diagnosed with Thalassemia Major and currently needs to find a matching stem cell donor to get a second chance at life. Visit dkms-africa.org to help save Imaan.
Imaan’s diagnosis came shortly after her baby sister was also found to have the same condition, prompting the rest of the siblings to be tested. With Imaan being the eldest of three sisters, her youngest sister is now receiving a bone marrow transplant thanks to their middle sister being a successful match. Sadly, neither of her siblings are a match for her.
For the past 6 years, Imaan’s routine has revolved around blood transfusions every four weeks. Initially, she needed only one unit, but now sometimes requires two, which has resulted in dangerously high iron levels.
When asked about encouraging donor registration, Yarzil shared how he felt it was important for greater awareness to take place in the Indian community.
Remember, all costs related to the donation process are taken care of by DKMS Africa.
