Libongwe (8) had a bright smile that faded away after being diagnosed with Fanconi Anaemia(FA). He was a lively, energetic boy who lit up every room. A lover of soccer, and playing games, now his only chance at survival is finding a matching stem cell donor. That donor could you.
In late November 2022, his mother, Nomthandazo, noticed worrying changes when Libongwe had unexplained bleeding, weight loss, and constant flu-like sickness.
She shared that: “He became weaker, needing hospital visits more often. After a series of tests, doctors told me that Libongwe had a serious blood disorder that would require chemotherapy, blood transfusions, and eventually, a stem cell transplant to survive,” said Nomthandazo.
Since then, hospital visits have become routine. Nomthandazo said “Every three weeks, Libongwe undergoes chemotherapy alongside life-saving blood and platelet transfusions. Libongwe is my only child, and every day is a mix of fear, hope, and gratitude,” said the mother.
Thousands of other children like Libongwe are still waiting. Many have not yet found their match. By registering as a stem cell donor, you could give a patient like Libongwe a second chance at life.
Remember, all costs related to the donation process are taken care of by DKMS Africa.
