6-year-old Khumo from Gauteng needs a hero like you. Register to become a potential stem cell donor and help save his life.
Khumo’s little life has already been met with sadness no 6-year-old should have to go through. Having lost his mom at just 6 months old, he has been in the care of his doting gogo Florence.
It was Khumo’s constant nosebleeds that alerted gogo Florence to her grandson’s ill health. She advised Khumo’s sister, Koketso to take him to their local clinic in Mamelodi. From there, Khumo was referred to a hospital. Further tests were run, leading to a transfer to Steve Biko Academic hospital where he received his Fanconi Anaemia diagnosis.
Things have been tough for Khumo and his family who largely rely on gogo Florence’s pension grant to get by.
“I’ve lost so much already. My daughter passed when Khumo was still a baby. I am the only mother he knows”, says gogo Florence.
“My only hope now is that Khumo is able to get the treatment he needs to live a normal life and go back to being a happy, playful child”, she added.
Gogo Florence spreads the news about her grandson to anyone willing to listen with hopes that through Khumo’s story, someone may be encouraged to register to become a potential stem cell donor.
