Give Nomvelo a Second Chance at Life

Urgent: Nomvelo Needs A Life-Saving Stem Cell Donor

Just before her final exams, 23-year-old Nomvelo’s life took a devastating turn after she fell seriously ill and landed up in hospital. Diagnosed with aplastic anaemia, a rare and life-threatening blood disorder, Nomvelo now needs to find a matching stem cell donor to get a second chance at life.

Her journey began with symptoms that seemed minor at first: heavy menstrual bleeding that lasted weeks, frequent infections, and bruises appearing after even the smallest bump. But after consulting medical attention, tests revealed dangerously low platelet and hemoglobin levels, and further examinations, including a bone marrow procedure, confirmed the aplastic aneamia diagnosis.

Nomvelo had been in her final year studying Medical Laboratory Science, preparing to enter a profession dedicated to saving lives. Instead, she found herself as the patient, facing a grueling reality she never imagined.

"I was admitted to the hospital just a week before my final exams," she recalls. "I couldn’t write, my studies were delayed, and it felt like my whole future had been put on hold."

Doctors tried immunosuppressive therapy, but after months, her blood counts remained dangerously low. Now, she depends on regular blood and platelet transfusions, sometimes every week, and even a minor cut could become life-threatening.

Her younger brother was tested, but he wasn’t a match. Nomvelo’s only hope now is a matching stem cell donor a stranger who could give her a real chance at life.

"It’s understandable to hesitate," she says. "But it’s not really a risk. You could take a chance, and save someone’s life."

Before her diagnosis, Nomvelo’s life was full of simple joys: coffee outings with friends, game nights, and long walks. Today, her greatest wish is simply be able to continue her studies and pursue her dreams.

You could be the stranger who changes her life forever.
