Light Up the Pass This Father's Day

Join DKMS Africa, Rainbows & Smiles and the Sunflower Sky Hike community on Sunday, 21 June 2026 for the 19th annual Sunflower Sky Hike.

Set against the breath-taking backdrop of Sani Pass and the Lesotho Drakensberg, this fundraising hike brings together outdoor enthusiasts, families and supporters for a day of remembrance, celebration and hope.

HIKE FOR HOPE

Hike in memory of loved ones. Hike to celebrate survivors. Hike in support of those currently facing cancer. Most importantly, hike for hope.

This year's event is held in support of Ian Preston, who has completed the hike for 19 years in memory of his daughter, Jade Preston, who passed away from leukaemia. Despite recovering from a serious accident, Ian will once again take on the mountain, inspiring others to join him in celebrating the spirit of Lives Touching Lives.

Date: Sunday, 21 June 2026 (Father's Day)
Time: Meet at 7:00 AM for a 7:30 AM start
Meeting Point: Sani Pass Border Post, Himeville
Distance: 8km up and 8km down
Cost: Minimum donation of R150
Fitness Level: Suitable for average to fit fitness levels

The hike follows the route from the Sani Pass Border Post into the Lesotho Drakensberg. Participants are encouraged to hike at their own pace and enjoy the experience. Support vehicles will be available for those who prefer to walk up only.

Dress in layers, come prepared for changing mountain conditions and don't forget your sunflower. Whether you bring one sunflower or five, help us light up the Pass with colour, remembrance and hope.

Funds raised through the event will support DKMS Africa, Rainbows & Smiles and Ian Preston.

Participants entering Lesotho must bring a valid passport. A R100 tourist levy applies for border crossing.

For many patients with blood cancer and blood disorders, a stem cell transplant offers the best chance of a second chance at life. By supporting events such as the Sunflower Sky Hike and registering as a stem cell donor, you can help bring hope to patients and families when they need it most.
