Goikantswe’s Gift of Hope

After reading about stem cell donation, Goikantswe took action; now her story is inspiring others to do the same.

In 2022, while scrolling online, Goikantswe came across a stem cell donor story that inspired her to register. Little did she know that one day, she too would help save a life. “Reading that story made me realise how powerful one simple act can be,” she says.

“I registered online that same day because I believe everyone deserves a chance at life,” she says. At the time, Goikantswe was balancing her studies at Tshwane University of Technology, never imagining that two years later, she would become someone else’s chance at life.

“I was thrilled and humbled to learn I was a match,” she recalls. “It was surreal to think that I could potentially save someone’s life. I felt a mix of emotions, excitement, gratitude, and a deep sense of purpose.”

For Goikantswe, the experience was more than a medical procedure, it was an act of humanity. “Knowing that my donation could bring hope and healing to someone in need made the process even more meaningful. I was eager to move forward and do everything I could to help.”

She says that being part of the global community of donors fills her with pride and gratitude. “I’m proud to contribute to something so powerful,” she shared.

Her journey, which began with reading another person’s story, has now come full circle.

“Becoming a donor was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made,” says Goikantswe. “You never know whose life you might save, or how it might change yours in return.”

If you are between 17 - 55 and in good health, you can make a difference today. Register and help give patients a second chance at life.

Remember, all costs related to the donation process are taken care of by DKMS Africa.
