Help Judy Find the Match She Needs

A Matching Donor Could Help Judy Get Back to her Childhood

Ten-year-old Judy was diagnosed with leukemia and now needs a matching stem cell donor. Without a suitable donor, she cannot receive the stem cell transplant she needs.

Described as a ray of sunshine, the treatment Judy is undergoing has taken a significant physical and emotional toll. It has also meant putting many of the things she loves on hold. For a 10-year-old who loves dancing and losing herself in a good book, being unable to enjoy those simple parts of childhood has been particularly difficult.

“Judy is a ray of sunshine and, together with her three-year-old brother, the joy of her parents,” says Bachar.

One of the most difficult parts of treatment for Judy has been losing her hair. For a young girl, it has been another painful reminder of how much her life has changed.

As her family wanted Judy to know that she would not have to face these changes alone. In solidarity with her, some of them decided to shave their own heads.

You could be the match someone is waiting for
Register as a potential stem cell donor. Your decision today could one day give someone like Judy the chance to keep living the life they dreamed of.
“That’s why some of us have also shaved our heads, out of solidarity and, above all, to show Judy she is not alone,” says Bachar.

For Judy, finding a matching donor could mean the chance to put treatment behind her and begin looking towards the childhood she has been forced to put on hold.

Anyone between the ages of 17 and 55 who meets the registration requirements can register as a potential stem cell donor.

Remember, all costs related to the donation process are taken care of by DKMS Africa.
