Omphile Needs Your Help to Find a Match

A Matching Donor Could Help Omphile Get Back to Being a Child

Omphile was just a Grade 1 learner when he was diagnosed with severe aplastic anaemia in 2023. Now, his young life hangs in the balance as his routine is shaped by hospital visits and treatment, waiting for a possible matching stem cell donor to come up.

Before his diagnosis, Omphile experienced persistent bleeding from his gums and under his teeth. The bleeding continued for some time before his mother finally received answers about what was making him sick.

“His illness became so serious that he had to stop attending school for an entire year. He missed classes, time with his classmates and the everyday experiences that come with being a child at school,” said his mother, Nonhle.
“Omphile loves playing ball and dreams of continuing to play as he grows older. But his doctor has advised him to stop because of the risks associated with his condition,” shared Nonhle.

For a young boy like Omphile, who simply wants to go to school, play ball and enjoy being a child, his illness has taken away a lot from him.

By registering as a stem cell donor, you could possibly help give patients like Omphile a healthier future and the chance to get back to doing the things they love the most.

Remember, all costs related to the donation process are taken care of by DKMS Africa.
