Phenyo’s Family Is Hoping for a Matching Stem Cell Donor

Six-year-old Phenyo needs a matching stem cell donor

One day, Phenyo wants to be a doctor, the next day he wants to become a driver. But while his dreams are still taking shape, he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of blood cancer, leaving his family with one simple wish of finding a matching stem cell donor.

Six-year-old Phenyo, from Soshanguve, was diagnosed with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (B-Cell ALL) in 2024 after being unwell for several weeks. For around two months before his diagnosis, his family noticed that he was often tired, spent much of his time under a blanket and had become noticeably pale.

Soon after his diagnosis, Phenyo began receiving blood transfusions at George Mukhari Academic Hospital and started a treatment journey that would change his everyday life.

Phenyo began receiving blood transfusions following his diagnosis with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.

Phenyo had been attending preschool, but his illness made it difficult for him to continue with his usual routine. For his mother, Daphney, watching her young son go through this has been heartbreaking.

“It breaks my heart to see my sweet boy going through this. He is so young, and all I want is for him to get better and have the chance to live the life he dreams about. I just pray that we can find his match.”

For his family, the hope is simple. They want Phenyo to have the chance to grow up, chase his dreams and become whoever he wants to be. But first, he needs a matching stem cell donor.

A matching donor could give Phenyo the chance to receive the stem cell transplant he needs and continue building the future he dreams of.

Your registration could be the match that gives Phenyo and patients like him hope for tomorrow.

Remember, all costs related to the donation process are taken care of by DKMS Africa.
