The race against time: every day counts

We are constantly striving to develop and improve the quality and quantity of the DKMS database.

The faster a suitable donor is found, the better the chances of survival for patients. Optimising the quality of the donor data is our number one priority, and we have significantly improved it already, by developing our own search algorithm. HAP-E Search (Haplotype Enhanced Search) is a special software program that makes it easier to search for suitable donors based on patients’ clinical reports, as it also identifies suitable mismatch donors (with discrepancies in the matching of tissue characteristics), and allows automated searches and requests via our DKMS Registry.

Other DKMS quality programs include further and improved typing of donors who have been in the database for a longer period of time, which we fund ourselves, as well as targeted searches for replacement donors. Our Ancestry program is aimed specifically at donors with rare combinations of tissue characteristics.

We’d love it if you could help us to get more people on the register so that everyone who needs a blood stem cell donor can find their match.
